How STRyNG
works.
A few answers before you
tie your first stryng.
What is STRyNG?
STRyNG (pronounced “string”) connects your people, places, and plans through intelligent location technology. Today, the iPhone app brings that vision to life with personal and shared reminders, lists, and notes. Tie a reminder to a place or a time, and keep related plans together.
How do you pronounce STRyNG?
Just like “string”—spelled with a y. And when we say “tie stryngs,” it sounds like “tie strings.”
How do location-based reminders work?
Choose a nudge for when you’re near a place, when you arrive, or when you leave. STRyNG uses location and place context to help determine when a reminder becomes relevant—like remembering a task as you get home. See how to set a location reminder.
Can I use STRyNG with friends and family?
Yes. Share reminders, lists, and notes, work together with a dedicated chat, and set location-based alerts for shared plans. You can also tie reminders for close friends and family through STRyNG’s sharing features.
Do reminders work when I’m not using the app?
Yes! With the required permissions in place, your STRyNG reminders surface even when the app is closed. Our intelligent location models maintain a high-level understanding of where you are in the background, switching to brief, precise location checks when a place becomes relevant. You get the nudge when it matters, without tracking your precise location every second of the day.
What about battery life?
Battery life is a core consideration in how we build STRyNG’s location features. Our intelligent location models gather the information needed to nudge you when and where it matters, keeping background activity light and reserving precise location checks for brief moments of relevance. This selective approach minimizes battery drain while keeping your reminders timely and relevant.
How does STRyNG use my location and shared information?
STRyNG uses location information to help decide when to show place-based reminders. People you choose to share with may see reminder content and related details, depending on the feature. Read our privacy policy for the full explanation and your choices.
